Weighted Grade Calculator

Combine assignment or category grades using their percentage weights. Grades may be entered as percentages, such as 85, or points, such as 17/20. Weights must represent the same course and add to no more than 100%.

Weighted grade formula

Weighted average = sum of (grade percentage × weight) ÷ sum of entered weights. If the entered weights total less than 100%, this is an average for the entered portion only, not the finished course grade.

Worked example

Homework at 90% worth 20%, quizzes at 80% worth 30% and an exam at 85% worth 50% give (90 × 20 + 80 × 30 + 85 × 50) ÷ 100 = 84.5%.

Using the result before a final exam

If all entered work is completed and the final is the only remaining component, use this normalized average as the current grade in the final grade calculator. Use the final weight from your syllabus. Remaining projects, curves, dropped grades and category-specific policies need additional information.
