Test Grade Calculator
Convert points earned into a percentage. The optional final-weight helper calculates an exam's share of a course graded by total points.
Find final exam weight from course points
Use this only when your course is graded by total points. Category-weighted courses must use the weights from the syllabus instead.
Formulas and examples
Test percentage = points earned ÷ points possible × 100. For example, 40/50 is 80%. Final exam weight = final possible points ÷ total course possible points × 100. A 200-point final in a 1000-point course is worth 20%.
Limits and letter grades
Possible points must be greater than zero. This tool uses a standard 0–100% scoring model, so earned points cannot exceed possible points. Extra credit needs your instructor's policy. A letter grade depends on your syllabus; a percentage alone does not establish the correct letter.
Use the percentage in the final grade calculator, or combine assignments in the weighted grade calculator.
